The event takes place at 10.45 am and lasts around 45 minutes. The actual handover only happens at 11 am. The guards famously show no distraction from the task at hand. Their poise and focus are razor sharp. The New Guard arrives from the Wellington Barracks to relieve the Old Guard of its duties.

Dressed in traditional red tunics and bearskin hats, The Queen’s Guard is made up of soldiers on active duty from the Household Division’s Foot Guards.

Since 1837, Buckingham Palace has been the official London residence of the Queen and serves as the administrative headquarters of the Monarch.
